Taking Orders For Christmas Now!

Our reindeers, Rhubarb and Raspberry, love their annual treat of chocolatey snowballs!

Yup, the season of silly merry-making and generous gift-giving is nearly upon us again! If you know someone who would love to wake up on Christmas morning to find some delectable handcrafted chocolate truffles in their stocking, under their tree or in their fridge, we are your people!

Your Local Dealer will be taking Christmas orders from now until Sunday 18 December 2011. It's little early, we know, but we've recently gone back to our day job and we do like to plan ahead. Things like possibly asking for a day or two off if the orders get massive (we say "we" but you know "we" are essentially a one-person chocolate-balling operation), ordering packaging and shopping for all the good stuff that goes into each chocolate truffle.

So, here's the deal...

1. To ensure maximum crunchy freshness, all chocolate truffles will be made on the 21st (Wednesday) and 22nd (Thursday) of December and ready for pick-up on the 23rd (Friday) or 24th (Saturday). If you need the goods before these dates, please let us know.

2. All flavours that you see in the sidebar on the right will be available for order. They will come in the usual dozen per box. $20 for each box (see payment details here).

3. To order, simply email yourdealerpal@gmail.com with:
- Flavour(s) and number of boxes that you would like
- Date of pick-up

We're looking forward to helping make your Christmas a super-chocolatey one!

xx Your Local Dealer

The Box

As you might already know, Your Local Dealer is all about keeping things real simple in order to give you more chocolatey bang for your buck.

We believe in spending big on the things that matter, like the good stuff that goes into making our addictive products. That, we feel, is what a major percentage of your consumer-dollar should be paying for.

Not frills like an impressive website - ours is built on a free blogging platform. Or professional food photography - we hope our pictures taken on our little point-and-shoot tell our story sufficiently. Or rah-rah-hurrah packaging in the form of moulded plastic trays in specially-designed and printed boxes - not when we feel that our delectable chocolate truffles already speak volumes!

So this is what you get...
Twelve homemade chocolate truffles in a zipped bag (that's not unlike those that the real illegal substances come in...tee hee hee) sitting comfortably in a clear plastic noodle box sealed with a home-printed label. If you're generously giving the chocolate truffles away as a present, let us know and we'll throw in a little gift tag.

No-frills. Lo-fi. Utilitarian (everything in the packaging serves a purpose - the bag keeps the balls airtight and fresh and the box prevents them from getting crushed). And altogether quite a good-looking package, we feel. In a minimalist sort of way.

Flavour #6: Pistachio Praline + Sour Cherries Chocolate Truffles

This flavour began its life as just plain old Pistachio Praline (made using the same formula as our top-seller Almond Crunch but with a different nut) which we sold quite a few of.

Then we thought, "Why not add some sour cherries into the mix? We've always like the pairing of pistachios and them semi-dried cherries in things like biscotti, homemade ice cream and cannoli filling. The crunch of the nuts and the slight chewy-ness of the tart fruit plus the chocolate will make a winning combo. Yay! And then there's the pretty colours of green and red!"

So, here we are. Our sixth flavour. Pals who've tried it loved it. We hope you will too!

Flavour #5: Ardbeg + Lapsang Souchong Chocolate Truffles

We wanted to create a OOMPH-ily gentleman-ly flavour for Father's Day. One that evokes after-dinner drinks and cigars in a dimly-lit room...an oak-panelled library, perhaps...men in their spiffy dinner jackets...sitting in cushy antique winged armchairs and leather chesterfield discussing major world events in the news...ice cubes clinking in their glasses and fragrant smoke filling the air...you get the drift.

We've been hard-at-work trialling and testing in our home-"lab" hoping that it'll be ready for Father's Day. And it now is! Originally available until Tuesday 13 September 2011. But we're happy to make a special batch for you whenever.

Flavour #5: A blend of Ardbeg, our favourite Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky (voted the Best Whisky in the World, three years in a row), and the Lapsang Souchong from our go-to tea palace T2.

The 10-year-old Ardbeg "is revered around the world as the peatiest, smokiest, most complex single malt of them all. Yet it does not flaunt the peat; rather it gives way to the natural sweetness of the malt to produce a whisky of perfect balance". Its aroma..."A burst of intense smoky fruit escapes into the atmosphere – peat infused with zesty lemon and lime, wrapped in waxy dark chocolate...Bold menthol and black pepper slice through the sweet smoke followed by tarry ropes and graphite. As you dip your nose in further, savour the aroma of smoked fish and crispy bacon alongside green bell peppers, baked pineapple and pear juice". Its taste..."An explosion of crackling peat sets off millions of flavour explosions on the tongue: peat effervesces with tangy lemon and lime juice, black pepper pops with sizzling cinnamon-spiced toffee. This is followed by a wave of brine infused with smooth buttermilk, ripe bananas and currants. Smoke gradually wells up on the palate bringing a mouthful of warm creamy cappuccino and toasted marshmallows. As the taste lengthens and deepens, dry espresso, liquorice root and tarry smoke develop coating the palate with chewy peat oils".

T2's Lapsang Souchong "is one of the most famous Chinese black teas. Large souchong leaves undergo a complex process of double smoking, where the leaves are first withered over a pine or cypress wood fire, fried, rolled and resmoked. The result is an incredibly distinctive and highly unique aroma filled with woody pine smoke and tobacco notes. With a surprisingly light body, an initial spicy kick transforms into a long, savoury finish with a slightly salty mouthfeel. Long, lingering smokiness defines this memorable brew which has a definite caffeine kick".

And together, with the Belgian Callebaut Dark and Milk Chocolate that we use, they make one hell of an unforgettable smokin' chocolate truffle!

Flavour #4: Earl Grey Chocolate Truffles

"A revered favourite, Earl Grey was first created by a Chinese Mandarin in honour of the British Prime Minister. Earl Grey is a large leaf, full-bodied Sri-Lankan blend of Ceylon orange pekoe and generous amounts of bergamot, producing an all-time classic tea. The orange pekoe leaves brew a coppery liquor with a pronounced bergamot aroma. The flavour is bold with good body and bright bergamot overtones that linger on the palate. It yields a slightly smokey finish with medium tannin." is how this tea is described by T2, our go-to tea palace.

To be really honest with you, we are not fans of Earl Grey.

We would be pinching our nose and making a face if we are made to drink the scented tea on its own but infused into the ganache centre of our chocolate truffles, it's a whole different story! We can't have enough of it! It's hard to put in words but the chocolate, strangely, takes the tea to a whole new dimension. A bloody good one.

We like how one of our customers, an Earl Grey-lover, described the experience. "It's like drinking Earl Grey out of a cup made out of chocolate. A cup that you can eat while you're drinking." she said. Haha.

Flavour #3: Salted Peanut Caramel Chocolate Truffles

This is Your Local Dealer's current personal favourite flavour of chocolate truffles!

Some folks are befuddled by the mix of the sweet in the milk chocolate and the salty-ness of the Murray River Pink Salt Flakes but that's precisely why we love it so!

Throw in the slight bitterness of the dark chocolate, the sticky-chewy chunks of toffee, the crunch of the peanuts and the silky-ness of the creamy ganache centre and what you get is the best texturally-tasty party happening in your mouth!

Flavour #2: Grand Marnier Chocolate Truffles

This orange-flavoured cognac surely needs no introduction?

If it's good enough for the flambĂ©-ing of the classic Crepes Suzette, it's good enough for Your Local Dealer's chocolate balls!

A generous splash of the liqueur added to their creamy ganache centres make our chocolate truffles a grown-up version of Jaffas, the sweet most Australians will remember from their childhood.

Flavour #1: Almond Crunch Chocolate Truffles

Flavour #1 - the first flavour that Your Local Dealer's little enterprise started pushing in June 2011 and it has proven to be pretty addictive, judging by the number of repeat-orders we get! It's also currently our #1 top-selling flavour.

The tiny chunks of homemade crunchy almond praline encased in the creamy ganache centre would be the closest most of us, non-illusionists/magicians, get to eating glass. Golden almond-y glass.

There are also some who liken the experience to biting into Pop Rocks but we like the glass comparison better. It's more gangster.
